Welcome  to  the  second  edition  of  ChopShots  –  Documentary  Film  Festival  Southeast  Asia 2014! Organized by DocNet Southeast Asia – a project initiated by the Goethe-Institut and funded by the European Union – this second edition of ChopShots will bring the Southeast Asian  as  well  as  international  documentary  scene  together  to  celebrate  the  art  of documentary making.

ChopShots is the ideal event for people from the documentary and digital industries to get together – to screen their work, share knowledge, do business, establish new networking and discuss innovations and challenges they are facing in the ever changing media landscape.

ChopShots 2014 received the total film submissions of 247 films from 49 countries and the organizing committee has selected 58 films for the festival.

Competition section  :

There are 12 selected films in the International Competition, which will be judged by the
jury members:

  • Nick Deocampo (the Phillipines)
  • Budi Irawanto (Indonesia)
  • John Badalu (Indonesia)
  • Bettina Braun (Germany)
  • Anna Har (Malaysia)

18 films from 7 Southeast Asian countries will be judged by the 3 jury members for the Best
SEA Shorts Competition:

  • Chalida Uabumrungjit (Thailand)
  • Nguyen Trinh Thi (Vietnam)
  • Leonard Retel Helmrich (The Netherlands)

Film Winners will be announced in the Closing Night and will receive:

Best International Documentary (feature length, 61 minutes and up) with the prize of 5,000 EUR
Best Southeast Asian Shorts (60 minutes and below) with prize of:
1 st  Best SEA Short 3,500 EUR
2 nd  Best SEA Short 1,500 EUR
Audience Award voted by audience with the prize of 500 EUR
Best  DocNet  Campus  Project  with  the  prize  Travelling  Grant  to  Sheffield  Documentary Festival

DocNet Campus 

DocNet  Campus  for  the  Southeast  Asian  filmmakers  will  take  place  in  Binus  International Film School and SAE Institute, Jakarta, from 21 – 27 April 2014. The participants are selected based  on  their  previous  experiences  and  the  project  proposal  that  they  submitted.
International tutors with producing experiences are engaged to mentor the participants in improving their proposal, plans and strategies for production and distribution – skills that are  not  abundant  in  Southeast  Asia,  due  to  the  lack  of  film  infrastructure  and  market  for documentaries.
